			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>This is this year to change your life and take charge of your health. NBC news recently reported that nearly 70% of adults in this country are overweight. One in three is obese. About half that many kids and teens are considered obese.</p>
<p>Let&#8217;s all try to reduce that percentage.</p>
<p>How to start:<br />
1. Mentally change your mind that you want to lose weight and get in shape.<br />
2. Start walking today. One time around the block, turns into more and more.<br />
3. Start eating less when it comes to consumption.<br />
4. Join a group that motivates you to change your eating plan.<br />
5. Ask someone else to be a mentor for each other.<br />
6. Join a walking group or running group.<br />
7. Plan your exercise.<br />
8. If you change your mind and do the above, it&#8217;s amazing the results you will begin to see.</p>
<p>My motto: If YOU are not moving, YOU are not losing&#8230; If YOU say YOU can&#8217;t, YOU won&#8217;t&#8230; I know believe ME!</p>
<p>My point is if YOU say YOU can&#8217;t, YOU won&#8217;t, and that has to do with everything in life. Do some kind of exercise everyday and keep moving. If YOU are moving, YOU are losing something. At the end of the day, YOU will feel better that YOU accomplished something today, that YOU didn&#8217;t do yesterday. The thing about it is, YOU have to do it everyday.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>9 weeks ago, I decided to run a 1/2 marathon. I did a google search &#8220;How to train for a 1/2 marathon&#8221; and found out that most people train for 3-4 months, sometimes longer to run a 1/2 marathon. I decided what the heck, &#8220;I&#8217;m going for it&#8221; and yesterday 11-13-11 I ran my 1st 1/2 marathon in less than 3 hours at the age of 52. This is my story.</p>
<p>Since 12-31-09, I have lost an incredible 130# of weight and have been doing all kinds of extreme things in my life. Hustle Up the Hancock in Feb 2011 was my first which I did the Half Climb, (52 floors, 812 steps) in 11:41. My goal was 10 minutes, but being my 1st climb I had no idea what to expect. Next year 2012, I will do less than 10 minutes. I have run numerous 5K races (13 to be exact) and began my training for the 1/2 marathon 9 weeks ago. Starting doing cross-training with my wife at our local YMCA (Spinning/cycling classes) 2 days a week at 5:30 a.m. (YES, 5:30 AM).</p>
<p>My training consisted of Sun-5-miles, Monday-off, Tues-spin class, Wed-4-miles, Thurs-spin class, Fri-off, Sat-5-miles and I did that for 9 weeks. I ran a few 8-10 mile days, but never 13.1 until 11-13-11. I have been following a very rigid lifestyle change of eating for quite sometime now in order to maintain my 185# body frame. Wow, I never thought I could say that. For years, I was FAT and my highest weight was 310#. Now that feels good to say 185#.</p>
<p>This past June was quite the month. Cataract eye surgery on June 1st, followed by emergency detached retina surgery on June 14th. I was flat on my stomach for 10 days. Try that challenge. During that time flat on my stomach, I thought pf many things. Life, family, friends, my business, my activities. The worst was I could not see out of my right eye and never thought I ever would. My eye doctor told me I have a 20% chance of ever seeing out of my eye again. My retina was 70% detached. That is huge. When I went back after my flat period, he told I was very lucky, but I had restrictions: NO RUNNING, NO flying, NO roller coaster (I love roller coasters), NO water in the eye. I could handle everything, but NO RUNNING, that just killed me. I was walking 4-6 miles a day, just to stay in shape. </p>
<p>I got my eyesight back fully 63 days later and when my doctor said I could run again, I said &#8220;I&#8217;m running a 1/2 marathon. It&#8217;s a miracle that I am not only back to running, but I ran a 1/2 marathon at 52 years old.<br />

<p>If &#8220;I can do it, anybody can do it&#8221;. The best part about running a 1/2 marathon was the 2-days of &#8220;Carb Loading&#8221; and when all said and done, I lost 4 lbs this week.</p>
<p>Never say &#8220;NO&#8221; to anything YOU want to accomplish in life. Just go for it!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>As I continue my training to run a 1/2 marathon on November 13, 2011, it&#8217;s funny that when I run, I think about the topic of my next blog. Today I was thinking I&#8217;m not on a D.I.E.t, because the first 3 letters spells something I am not ready for yet. D.I.E.t., it&#8217;s a huge food lifestyle change.</p>
<p>Lately, I&#8217;ve been a running fool, 6-miles in 56 minutes tonight, 5K last Saturday, 5-miles last Friday night. 36 holes of golf in 2 days and cross-training/spinning class on Tuesday @ 5:15 a.m. Maybe time for some rest&#8230; Nah!!! 1/2 Marathon in November <img src='http://s0.wp.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p>I also got my vision back to 20/20 in my right eye, 63 days after my detached retina surgery. My doctor said &#8220;you are one lucky guy&#8221; and I said &#8220;no, you are one good doctor&#8221;.</p>
<p>Today, as I look back on the last year, I can&#8217;t even believe that I did it. I&#8217;ve lost 130 pounds as of this week. This picture taken in March 2010 reminds me that I was overweight and fat at 310#.</p>

<p>In August 2010, my wife bought the book &#8220;Your Inner Skinny,&#8221; and her and my oldest daughter started the plan. Two weeks later, they suggested that I start the plan as well. That&#8217;s when everything really began for me. I weighed 270 pounds then, and by November 1st, I had lost another 65 pounds. My total weight loss was at 105 pounds. I posted my success on Joy Bauer&#8217;s Facebook fan page, and soon after, she contacted me about applying to become a member of the Joy Fit Club, an exclusive club of members that have lost over 100 pounds. New Joy Fit Club members are inducted on the NBC Today Show in New York. Soon after filling out the questionnaire, my application was accepted, and I appeared on the NBC Today Show on November 29th.</p>
<p>I am just your average hometown guy that was overweight and knew I needed to do something about it. I decided to go for it (with some help from my family), and now I&#8217;m sharing my story with other people who want to lose weight but are afraid to take that first step. Trust me, it&#8217;s never too late to become healthy.</p>
<p>Please know that I am always here to help. I want other people to achieve the same type of success that I have. I did it, and I know you can too! This is my picture of Joy Bauer and me after I had lost 105# in New York City on November 29, 2010.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>September 1, 2011 was another great day in my life. I got my braces off after having them on for 19 months. Even after losing another 5# to get to my total weight loss of 130#, I had a few food items on my list that day. Peanut butter and jelly was my first sticky item, followed by 1/4# of triple chocolate malt balls from Albanese Candy. 2 items that I missed dearly while my teeth were being straightened. Now that I have satisfied those cravings, I am back to my food lifestyle change.</p>
<p>I also got my vision back to 20/20 in my right eye, 63 days after my detached retina surgery. My doctor said &#8220;you are one lucky guy&#8221; and I said &#8220;no, you are one good doctor&#8221;. Now I am backing to running and have run 2 races since August 28th (5K) and a 4 mile race last Sunday. This Sunday is 911 and I am running in the 911 Heroes Run. A race around the world with over 40 locations being run at the same time. 30 in the USA and 10 more around the world including Afghanistan, Iraq, Italy, Persian Gulf, Qatar, United Kingdom.</p>
<p>I also started my training to run a 1/2 Marathon on November 13th. Today, as I look back on the last year, I can&#8217;t even believe that I did it. I&#8217;ve lost 130 pounds as of this week. This picture taken in March 2010 reminds me that I was overweight and fat at 310#.</p>

<p>In August 2010, my wife bought the book &#8220;Your Inner Skinny,&#8221; and her and my oldest daughter started the plan. Two weeks later, they suggested that I start the plan as well. That&#8217;s when everything really began for me. I weighed 270 pounds then, and by November 1st, I had lost another 65 pounds. My total weight loss was at 105 pounds. I posted my success on Joy Bauer&#8217;s Facebook fan page, and soon after, she contacted me about applying to become a member of the Joy Fit Club, an exclusive club of members that have lost over 100 pounds. New Joy Fit Club members are inducted on the NBC Today Show in New York. Soon after filling out the questionnaire, my application was accepted, and I appeared on the NBC Today Show on November 29th.</p>
<p>I am just your average hometown guy that was overweight and knew I needed to do something about it. I decided to go for it (with some help from my family), and now I&#8217;m sharing my story with other people who want to lose weight but are afraid to take that first step. Trust me, it&#8217;s never too late to become healthy.</p>

When I decided in December 2009 to lose weight, it was to get healthier and be in better shape. It was very hard to be 50 years old and weigh 310 pounds. I knew that I had to exercise and watch my food consumption. All overweight people know that&#8217;s what they need to do. It&#8217;s just hard to mentally start doing something about it. I started walking daily and began the journey of watching what I ate. Today, as I look back on the last year, I can&#8217;t even believe that I did it. I&#8217;ve lost 125 pounds as of this week. <p>A good friend and client of mine read the book in Nov 2010 and began his plan to do something about being overweight. He has 145# since that time. Three more of my clients started their own plans and together they have lost over 200 pounds in a few short months. I know 11 people that have decided to lose weight and together we have lost over 1,100#. Please know that I am always here to help. I want other people to achieve the same type of success that I have. I did it, and I know you can too!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I recently was asked by someone that has not seen me in over a year and she asked me &#8220;Why did you lose so much weight?&#8221; My first initial thought was seriously, why would someone ask me that? But, I said because I wanted to. To date I&#8217;ve lost 125#. I had nothing sucked out of me and I did it all on my own. We had a nice conversation and I told her the story of &#8220;My Journey&#8221;. I told her watch my video and you can see where I was and where I am today. Watch my video from my appearance on the NBC Today Show back in November 2010 when I was inducted into the Joy Bauer Fit Club because I had lost over 100# back then </a><a href="http://bit.ly/1smN53">SeeVideo</a></p>
<p>After we ended our conversation, I thought back to her question and said many people lose weight because they are sick and not healthy. Obese people are sick (and I say obese because at 310#) I considered myself obese. Not all obese people are sick, but the excessive weight can not be healthy. I am in the best shape of my life at 52 years old (just had my 52nd on July 11th). I don&#8217;t smoke, drink alcohol daily, and I take &#8220;NO&#8221; medications. No pills or drinks to keep my weight maintained. I am completely off high cholesterol medications. When I was fat,I was taking 80mg a day. Now, nothing.</p>
<p>I have been able to maintain my 125# weight loss and actually met my ultimate goal of 185# after my retina surgery. I never thought on 12-21-09 that I would ever get to 185#. My first goal was to lose 20#. I have well surpassed that goal. The key now is that with retina detachment surgery I can&#8217;t exercise or run or jog or walk anywhere. So, I really have to watch what I eat. It would be so easy to lay on my stomach and eat whatever I want to. My will power is looking at the picture of myself when I weighed 310# and that there is enough to keep me focused on maintaining. My lifestyle change with food has not changed and YES I said &#8220;lifestyle change&#8221;. I do not call it a diet because the first 3 letters in diet is D-I-E and I&#8217;m not ready for that. I might not be able to see out of my right eye now, but I am clearly not ready to die, it&#8217;s just another roadblock in life. I&#8217;ll get through this and maintain my weight around 185# through eating yogurt, bananas, low cal muffins, chicken, steak and lots and lots and lots of water.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I will get to maintaining weight during surgery recovery, just got to tell the story. June 14, 2011 will be a day that changed my life forever. I had retina detachment surgery. That morning I woke up and could not see out of my right eye. Drove myself to the eye doctor and was told I had a detached retina. I said, OK, what does that mean? It meant I needed to see a retina eye specialist immediately. Off to Munster to see the retina doctor and he diagnosed surgery right away. I never had an emergency surgery ever. It was 4 pm and I was scheduled to have surgery at 7:30 pm. That&#8217;s quick.</p>
<p>My surgery went well and it was 100% re-attached and now the recovery begins. Well as of today, I on Day 7. Never thought I could sleep face down on my stomach or walk looking at the ground all of the time. Mostly laying in bed face down and getting up only when I really need to.</p>
<p>I have been able to maintain my 125# weight loss and actually met my ultimate goal of 185# after my retina surgery. I never thought on 12-21-09 that I would ever get to 185#. My first goal was to lose 20#. I have well surpassed that goal. The key now is that with retina detachment surgery I can&#8217;t exercise or run or jog or walk anywhere. So, I really have to watch what I eat. It would be so easy to lay on my stomach and eat whatever I want to. My will power is looking at the picture of myself when I weighed 310# and that there is enough to keep me focused on maintaining. My lifestyle change with food has not changed and YES I said &#8220;lifestyle change&#8221;. I do not call it a diet because the first 3 letters in diet is D-I-E and I&#8217;m not ready for that. I might not be able to see out of my right eye now, but I am clearly not ready to die, it&#8217;s just another roadblock in life. I&#8217;ll get through this and maintain my weight around 185# through eating yogurt, bananas, low cal muffins, chicken, steak and lots and lots and lots of water.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>11 of my friends/clients have lost over 845# in weight in the last 15 months. We have all done it different ways because not any one lifestyle change works for everyone. The point is we are all dedicated to become healthier and get into better shape. Not a single person had any surgery to lose this weight or did it because they were sick. We all just decided that being fat was no longer a word in our vocabulary.</p>
<p>We just decided to do it all on our own. A lifestyle food change and exercising regularly. My friend Tim was at one time in his life 585# and he was 458# at his last weigh-in. All of my friends/clients are amazing. In addition to Tim&#8217;s 127#, Jean has lost 95#, Jill 75#, Tom 55#, John 75#, Shawn 60#, Marian 40# and 2 others 195#.</p>
<p>I personally have lost 123# since 12-31-09 and have kept it off since then. Now I have become a runner, because I can do it. I ran my 1st official 5K race in Indianapolis on April 16th, my 2nd on May 15th and my 3rd on May 28th. Every one has been better than the one before. My last one I did in 29:58. I finally broke the 30 minute/5K. More races are planned for 2011.</p>
<p>Are you inspired yet? How can we help you? We all eat healthy and exercise just about every day. My motto: &#8220;If your moving, your losing&#8221;. Tom told me today that he has lost 45# in 9 1/2 weeks. That is a true dedication to his life change. Shawn and I have been encouraging each other every week. We are even planning on doing the Warrior Dash this year in June with 6 other people (even a couple of personal trainers). Are we crazy?</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>My friend Tim is 8# away form his next goal weight. He just celebrated his 5 month anniversary of &#8220;NO&#8221; FAST FOOD &amp; &#8220;NO&#8221; SODA POP. He is committed to continuing with this lifestyle change and he now weighs 458#. To date he has lost 127#. This is the first time in 10 YEARS that he has weighed under 500#. I am so proud of him. It takes quite the will power and lifestyle change to want to do this. He is saving his life every day by sticking to this program.</p>
<p>Tim walks every day around the neighborhood where he lives. We are an inspiration to each other. Since returning from vacation, I have lost another 11# which makes my total weight loss at 123#. I have been running 3 miles a day since May 1st and I prepare to run the 5K Hub Run Sunday afternoon May 15th.</p>
<p>Tim and I both follow the book &#8220;Your Inner Skinny&#8221; by Joy Bauer from the NBC Today Show. You can see my video of what I used to eat when I was fat. If I can do it, you can too.</p>

I have not seen Marian in a few years as she was employed elsewhere and returned back to her previous company in a new position. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I recently resurrected a business relationship with Marian after she called me to inquire about ordering some embroidered bags for the business she manages. I have not seen Marian in a few years as she was employed elsewhere and returned back to her previous company in a new position. When see saw me, her mouth dropped open and said &#8220;oh my, you have lost a lot of weight and look good&#8221;. I told her my story about losing 120# and she said &#8220;I want to do that&#8221; as she wants to lose 50#.</p>
<p>I am proud to say that she bought the book &#8220;Your Inner Skinny&#8221; and started the plan on April 11th. In an email today, Fri, April 15, 2011 2:48:58 PM, in her own words as &#8220;I am down 12 since Monday!!!&#8221;</p>
<p>She has taken action and has started her plan to lose that 50#. Week one is not over and she has already lost 12#.</p>
<p>Great job Marian! Keep it up!</p>
<p>On another update my friend Tim is down 14# this month and is &#8220;so happy&#8221; to be under that 500# weight.</p>
<p>The group of (now 10 of us) has lost an incredible 764#.</p>
